Universality of the rho-meson coupling in effective field theory

2004

It is shown that both the universal coupling of the rho-meson and the Kawarabayashi-Suzuki-Riadzuddin-Fayyazuddin expression for the magnitude of its coupling constant follow from the requirement that chiral perturbation theory of pions, nucleons, and rho-mesons is a consistent effective field theory. The prerequisite of the derivation is that all ultraviolet divergences can be absorbed in the redefinition of fields and the available parameters of the most general effective Lagrangian.

Nuclear medium modification of the structure function

2011

Abstract We study the nuclear effects in the electromagnetic structure function F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) in the deep inelastic lepton–nucleus scattering process by taking into account Fermi motion, binding, pion and rho meson cloud contributions. Calculations have been done in a local density approximation using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which include nucleon correlations. The ratios R F 2 A ( x , Q 2 ) = 2 F 2 A ( x , Q 2 ) A F 2 D ( x , Q 2 ) are obtained and compared with recent JLab results for light nuclei with special attention to the slope of the x distributions. This magnitude shows a non-trivial A dependence and it is insensitive to possible normalization uncertainties. The re…

Nuclear medium effects in structure functions

2012

We discuss the nuclear-medium effects in the weak structure functions F2(x,Q2) and F3,(x,Q2) in the charged current neutrino and antineutrino induced deep inelastic reactions in some nuclei which are being used in the present or proposed neutrino oscillation experiments. Our study of the medium effects has been done using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which incorporates Fermi motion, binding energy and nucleon correlations. We also consider the pion and rho meson cloud contributions calculated from a microscopic model for meson-nucleus self-energies. Using these structure functions, the results for the differential cross section have been obtained and compared with some of the ava…

Chiral approach to the rho meson in nuclear matter

2000

In this work, the properties of the $\rho$ meson at rest in cold symmetric nuclear matter are studied. We make use of a chiral unitary approach to pion-pion scattering in the vector-isovector channel, calculated from the lowest order Chiral Perturbation Theory ($\chi PT$) lagrangian including explicit resonance fields. Low energy chiral constraints are considered by matching our expressions to those of one loop $\chi PT$. To account for the medium corrections, the $\rho$ couples to $\pi\pi$ pairs which are properly renormalized in the nuclear medium, accounting for both $p-h$ and $\Delta -h$ excitations. The terms where the $\rho$ couples directly to the hadrons in the $p-h$ or $\Delta -h$ …

Nuclear medium effects inν(ν¯)-nucleus deep inelastic scattering

2011

We study nuclear medium effects in the weak structure functions ${F}_{2}(x,{Q}^{2})$ and ${F}_{3}(x,{Q}^{2})$ in the deep inelastic neutrino and antineutrino induced reactions in nuclei. We use a theoretical model for the nuclear spectral functions which incorporates the conventional nuclear effects, such as Fermi motion, binding, and nucleon correlations. We also consider the pion and rho meson cloud contributions calculated from a microscopic model for meson-nucleus self-energies. The calculations have been performed using relativistic nuclear spectral functions. Our results are compared with the experimental data of the NuTeV and the CERN Dortmund Heidelberg Saclay Warsaw (CDHSW) collabo…

Nucleon-nucleon effective potential in dense matter including rho-meson exchange

1998

We obtain the RPA summed one-meson exchange potential between nucleons in symmetric nuclear matter at zero temperature, from a model which includes $\rho $, $\sigma $, $\omega $ and $\pi $ mesons. The behavior of rho mesons inside the medium is first discussed using different schemes to extract a finite contribution from the vacuum polarization. These schemes give qualitatively different results for the in-medium rho mass. The results are discussed in connection with the non-renormalizability of the model. We next study the modified potential as density increases. In the intermediate distance range, it is qualitatively modified by matter and vacuum effects. In the long-distance range ($r>2$…

ν(ν¯)−208Pb deep-inelastic scattering

2012

Nuclear-medium effects on the weak structure functions ${F}_{2}(x,{Q}^{2})$ and ${F}_{3}(x,{Q}^{2})$ in charged-current neutrino and antineutrino induced deep-inelastic reactions in ${}^{208}$Pb have been studied. The calculations have been performed in a theoretical model using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which incorporate Fermi motion, binding, and nucleon correlations. We have also included the pion and rho meson cloud contributions calculated from a microscopic model for meson-nucleus self-energies. Using these structure functions, differential scattering cross sections have been obtained and compared with the CERN Hybrid Oscillation Research Apparatus (CHORUS) data. The res…

Meson-Baryon s-wave Resonances with Strangeness -3

2006

Starting from a consistent SU(6) extension of the Weinberg-Tomozawa (WT) meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian (Phys. Rev. D74 (2006) 034025), we study the s-wave meson-baryon resonances in the strangeness S=-3 and negative parity sector. Those resonances are generated by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation with the WT interaction used as kernel. The considered mesons are those of the 35-SU(6)-plet, which includes the pseudoscalar (PS) octet of pions and the vector (V) nonet of the rho meson. For baryons we consider the 56-SU(6)-plet, made of the 1/2+ octet of the nucleon and the 3/2+ decuplet of the Delta. Quantum numbers I(J^P)=0(3/2^-) are suggested for the experimental resonances Omega*(2250)-…
